CES 2013: Westinghouse to show 110-inch Ultra HDTV (and smaller ones)

At the Consumer Electronics Show next week, Westinghouse Digital is looking to bring its value-oriented focus to the emerging Ultra High Definition (UHD) TV market this year with its first sets in screen sizes ranging from 50 to 65 inches. But its CES showpiece—a giant 110-inch model, the largest we've seen so far—will be available only as a custom order.

More widely available starting in the first quarter of the year will be UHD TVs with 50-, 55- and 65-inch screen sizes. Like other UHD sets we've so far seen, from companies including LG and Sony, all will be LCD TVs with 3840x2160 resolutions. These sets will also have 120Hz refresh rates.

We'll be visiting Westinghouse at CES, so stay tuned for our first impressions of this set. One thing I'm curious about is whether the greater pixel density—four times that of regular 1080p sets—will be noticeable on a screen as small as 50 inches, which is the smallest UHD screen size we've seen announced.

While we're at the show, we'll also be looking for solutions to one of the big issues facing these 4K sets: The lack of native 4K content that can take advantage of the greater picture detail.
