It’s one of the most frequent questions we get from "Talking Cars" watchers: What’s a good car to pick for a new driver? We dedicate this episode of our weekly podcast to dissecting this thorny issue.
First we cover the basics, discussing the essentials. Stability control ranks very high on that list. With the help of viewer questions, we also look at the many misconceptions, opinions, and approaches toward buying a good first car. For example, pickup trucks or old “tanks” aren’t good choices, and we explain why. Budget also plays a big part, so we discuss what you might have to spend.
Finally, we discuss the role of advanced driver training, and look at where our best-cars-for-teens list follows the one issued by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and where it deviates.
Check out the discussion in the video above. And visit our teen driving hub for more information on teen safety and lists of recommended new and used cars.
