New Chevrolet Spark fails to ignite passion in our tests

The Chevrolet Spark is an affordable city car that's great for tight parking spots and easy on gas, but that is where the good news ends.

The new four-door subcompact gets excellent 32 mpg overall and 42 mpg on the highway. There is a surprisingly usable rear seat and a nice assortment of features, such as touch-screen audio, Bluetooth connectivity, and 10 air bags, but performance on our track is lacking.

The small 84-hp, 1.2-liter four-cylinder engine struggles to keep pace. Acceleration is sluggish, and the ride is stiff and jittery with an abundance of cabin noise. The center touch-screen control lacks traditional buttons, requires several taps to get what you want, and gives no feedback.

The Spark won't ignite passions with every shopper. But to see if the Spark is right for you, check out our preview video below for more insights, and visit our Chevrolet Spark model page for the detailed road test, Ratings, and complete video review.
