Former Senior Editor at Newsweek/Daily Beast to Spearhead Magazine’s Editorial Team

YONKERS, NY – Consumer Reports, the world’s largest independent, non-profit product-testing organization, has named Ellen Kampinsky as editor-in-chief of Consumer Reports magazine.  In her new role, Ms. Kampinsky will be responsible for overseeing Consumer Reports’ flagship publication and working closely with the editorial team to ensure it remains at the forefront of consumer news and information.

As editor-in-chief, Ms. Kampinsky will be charged with setting and executing the strategic direction and vision for the magazine, which has a circulation of about four million, and its digital replicas.  She will also direct the publication’s graphic presentation and packaging, as well as ensure that its voice and tone are consistent.

Ms. Kampinsky will report to Brent Diamond, vice president and general manager, magazine and newsletter products at Consumer Reports.

“Ellen’s impressive track record across multiple formats of media and her commitment to upholding the highest standards of journalistic integrity make her a welcome addition to the Consumer Reports team,” Mr. Diamond said. “Her experience will be invaluable as we strive to provide readers with a broad range of information and work together for a fair, just and safe marketplace for all consumers.”

Prior to joining Consumer Reports, Ms. Kampinsky served as a senior editor at Newsweek & The Daily Beast. Her past experience also includes 10 years at Glamour, most recently as news director, where she edited award-winning political and investigative pieces and oversaw the magazine’s marquee event, Glamour’s Women of the Year Awards.

She has spoken at international journalism conferences about “Storytelling on the Web” and is a co-author of the white paper, “Amazoning the News,” along with Shayne Bowman and Chris Willis.

Consumer Reports is the world’s largest independent product-testing organization. Using its more than 50 labs, auto test center, and survey research center, the nonprofit rates thousands of products and services annually. Founded in 1936, Consumer Reports has over 8 million subscribers to its magazine, website and other publications.  Its advocacy division, Consumers Union, works for health reform, product safety, financial reform, and other consumer issues in Washington, D.C., the states, and in the marketplace.
