Q. I’ve read that farm-raised salmon isn’t as good for you as wild-caught salmon. True?
A. In general, yes. Both contain high levels of omega-3s, the fatty acids that may support heart health. But some research suggests farmed salmon may harbor higher mercury and pesticide residues and higher levels of possible carcinogens called PCBs. (The risks depend on how the salmon was raised and what it was fed.) So our food-safety experts say it makes sense to spring for wild salmon.
