Nissan confirmed to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it will carry out a voluntary recall of 13,535 Frontier pickup trucks, from the 2012 to 2014 model years produced between Nov. 28, 2012, and Dec. 17, 2013.
The recall relates to a circuit breaker assembly that may have been installed incorrectly in some trucks. If installed incorrectly, the wiring harness could make contact with a bolt in the truck’s A-pillar, leading to potential wearing out of the wire’s coating and causing an eventual short circuit. The short can result in items such as power seats or sunroofs being inoperable. Worse case may also include overheating that can result in fire.
Nissan is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this failure. The company says it will contact Frontier owners in early March. Customers may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261 or the National Highway Traffic Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-800-641-7261 or at www.safercar.gov for additional details.
The Frontier is one of our recommended vehicles based on its very good overall performance in our tests and average to above average reliability in our Annual Auto Surveys for the 2012 and 2013 model years.
