Fancy cars are the topic of Episode 20 of our "Talking Cars With Consumer Reports" video podcast. Discussion starts with the introduction of two new Land Rover test cars, our $88,545 Range Rover and $74,040 Range Rover Sport. As winter seizes hold of our Connecticut test track early this year, a lot of discussion focuses about Land Rover’s ill-advised choice of tires for the Sport. Conversation then shifts to a visit from a Cadillac ELR extended-range-hybrid press car and almost immediately focuses on the car’s lofty $76,000 price tag, pushing aside the car’s concept car styling and luxurious interior.
We then catch up on some reader questions, including the testing status of the Honda Accord Hybrid, Jeep Cherokee, and Mazda3. A reader asks whether the Volkswagen Golf TDI makes a good first car, while another reader searches for a high-powered replacement for his Ford Mustang GT.
This video podcast marks the first time we’ve had four people on the set, with Gabe Shenhar, Jon Linkov, and Ryan Pszczolkowski joining the host Tom Mutchler. Look for a dramatic re-enactment of Tom getting spurned at the keyboard, and a blooper reminds viewers that our podcast isn’t exactly rehearsed.
