Average gas prices--November 5, 2012

The aftermath of Hurricane Sandy hasn't affected gas prices on the East coast or around the country. In fact, they have dropped compared to the week before, which is welcomed news as many East coasters deal with long lines at the pump. The national gasoline average is 7 cents above the price this time last year and about 13 cents below last week's price. Premium gasoline is now averaging $3.81. Diesel fuel is about 12 cents above this time last year.

See our guide to fuel economy for advice on saving gasoline, including reports on how to get the best gas mileage and where to find the cheapest gas. Learn about future technologies in our guide to alternative fuels.
