Nissan introduced its new Rogue small SUV at the Frankfurt Motor Show yesterday. The 2014 model is slightly taller than and not as long as the outgoing model, yet manages to squeeze in three optional rows of seats to carry seven passengers.
The much tougher looking 2014 Rogue will offer a new suite of driver aids, including features most-often associated with upscale models, such as blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, and the same Around View Monitor with moving object detection found in some larger Nissan SUVs.
The seven-inch touch screen will also display a rearview camera and a navigation system with full voice control and live traffic and weather, and an app interface.
Nissan claims it will get 18 percent better fuel economy from an updated continuously variable transmission backing the carryover 170-hp, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. The new CVT will offer wider maximum gear ratios, a standard sport mode, and an engine braking function. Nissan claims that front-wheel-drive models can achieve 33 mpg on the highway.
Prices start at $23,325, and run to almost $30,000 for a fully loaded model. The 2014 Rogue goes on sale in November; look for more steep discounts on 2013 models, which were never bad cars, though now seem a bit dated.
