When it comes to digital imaging, a number of well-respected brands specialize in either cameras or printers. Rarely does a company excel in more than one area. But Canon stands out as a reputable brand that crosses over several categories, including point-and-shoot cameras and printers.
For example, if you're looking for a digital camera, the low rate of repairs for Canon cameras reported in our most recent brand-reliability survey should be reassuring. Our survey indicates that Canon (along with Panasonic and Sony) is a best bet on brand performance for superzooms (which include lenses with 15x optical zoom or more), subcompacts, and compact cameras. Such Canon point-and-shoots include the compact PowerShot S110 ($450).
Another category that Canon has done well in, according to our test, is all-in-one printers. Our testers rated Canon (along with HP) as a best bet for these best-selling inkjets. We don't have reliability info on them, but Canon has done well based on our performance ratings. Some recently tested recommended Canon models include Canon Pixma MG8220, $300 and Canon Pixma MG3220, $60.
