One brand, Bosch, has topped our dishwasher Ratings for many years, with a $700 model, the Bosch Ascenta SHX3AR7[5]UC, top of the list most recently. Until now. In our latest tests of dishwashers, the Kenmore Elite 12783, $1,200, edged out the now number two Bosch with slightly quieter operation and lower water use.
The Bosch Ascenta SHX3AR7[5]US, a CR Best Buy, comes close to matching the Kenmore in performance and features. Both machines have adjustable racks, ample flatware slots and a sensor that adjusts water usage and cycle time. The Kenmore has a stainless-steel tub. Both machines were excellent in energy efficiency but at 135 minutes per cycle, it takes the Kenmore 40 minutes longer than the Bosch to complete a load of dishes.
Our latest batch of tested models also includes the KitchenAid KDFE454CSS, $1,500, the Maytag MDB8959SBS,$600, and the Amana ADB1100AWW, $300. Of the three, the KitchenAid also fared especially well in our tests with excellent scores on washing, energy efficiency and quietness.
Our list of top dishwasher picks includes 27 models with several each from Kenmore, Bosch, Miele and KitchenAid. If you're shopping for a dishwasher, check our dishwasher buying advice before reviewing our Ratings and recommendations of conventional dishwashers and drawer-type models.
