Lego City Undercover. This game is kind of like a kid-friendly version of Grand Theft Auto, with the grit and violence replaced by Lego's cute visuals and charm. But it's still fun for grownups, too. Players take on the role of Chase McCain, a legendary police officer who hunts down lawbreakers, and collect Lego pieces throughout the game that unlock new disguises for Chase. The game implements the Wii U GamePad well: You use it as a map and also as a communicator for "video calls" between characters. It really helps to draw you into the game's universe. Lego fans of all ages will have a great time.

Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon is a fun puzzle-solving adventure game starring Mario's beloved green brother, Luigi. His cowardice makes Luigi an entertaining protagonist for this spooky and funny game. Players use Luigi's flashlight and "Poltergust 5000" vacuum to solve puzzles and capture ghosts. The game also has a multiplayer mode that abandons puzzles and focuses on fighting ghosts and racing through levels. It's a funny and entertaining game that kids and Mario fans will enjoy, and the inclusion of multiplayer mode should extend the lifespan of the game.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity. Ever dream of being a Pokémon? Here's your chance. In the newest entry to the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Series, you can play as Pikachu, Snivy, Oshawott, Tepig, or Axew. Use your chosen Pokémon and a team of a few others to explore randomly generated dungeons, and eventually, to build your own Pokémon paradise. Most kids will love playing as a Pokémon, but diehard fans of the traditional Pokémon series may be put off by the very different play style of this series. You can lock out 3D mode for children under the age of 7, for whom 3D mode is not recommended.

Also note that "Wreck-It Ralph" is now available on DVD and Blu-ray: It's a fantastic movie about a game character who longs to reform from bad guy to beloved hero. It's great for players of all ages.
