If the lack of Amazon Instant Video as a streaming option has been keeping you away from a Samsung Smart TV, you can now feel free to embrace one—the service is now available on all new and current 2012 Samsung Smart TVs.
Amazon Instant Video, available as a downloadable app in Samsung Apps, sports a new, redesigned user interface that's been tweaked for bigger TV screens. It also has a feature called Your Watchlist (which lets you store a list of movies and shows you'd like to watch later) and supports closed captions and content recommendations based on your viewing habits.
Amazon Prime members will get free access to Prime Instant Video selections, which represent about 30,000 titles of the 140,000 movies and TV shows in the larger Instant Video library, according to Amazon's estimates.
Amazon Instant Video joins a number of other streaming movie and TV services available as part of Samsung's Smart TV platform, including Hulu Plus, Netflix, YouTube, and Vudu. In addition, Samsung is the only TV brand left offering streaming content from Blockbuster.
After you download the Amazon app on your TV, any movies and TV episodes that already have been purchased or rented from Amazon.com should appear automatically in Your Video Library on the TV's Amazon Instant Video app.
